Athlete Pathway
Understanding the WSPS/IPC classification system that ensures equal and fair competition opportunities for para shooters across all impairment profiles.
The SH1 class applies to both Rifle and Pistol disciplines. The defining characteristic is that the athlete must hold the firearm entirely without support.
The SH2 class is primarily dedicated to the Rifle discipline. Due to the functional impact of their impairment, athletes in this class require a shooting stand to support the firearm.
Athletes with vision impairment have reduced or no vision caused by damage to the eye structure, optic nerves, optical pathways, or the visual cortex of the brain.
Athletes compete seated (wheelchair or stool). Designed for shooters with poor balance and/or trunk function.
Athletes compete standing. For those with lower limb impairment but normal upper limb and trunk function.
Athletes compete standing. For those with impairment in the non-shooting upper limb.
How to get officially classified to compete in sanctioned national and international events.
Provide documentation from a licensed physician confirming your eligible impairment type according to IPC minimum disability criteria.
A licensed WSPS classifier will assess your impairment in a technical and observational evaluation at an official classification camp.
Upon passing evaluation you will receive your sport class (SH1, SH2, or SH3) and a classification card valid for national events.
For international competition, classification must be confirmed by two WSPS international classifiers at an official international event.
